Terror and Music

The terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. are turning the world upside down, and the music world is no exception. In Germany, thousands of miles away from the venue of disaster, concerts are being canceled. Sir Simon Rattle postponed a contract signing event at the Berlin Philharmonic to demonstrate the severe emotional effect the attacks have had on him and on the orchestra. In the United States, concert life stopped on Tuesday (Sept. 11), and wherever music has returned, concerts are being adjusted, many of them turning into charitable events.
